About Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is an evidence-based medical treatment used to support healing in specific conditions, including complex wounds, chronic bone infections and radiation injuries.

How HBOT Works

Normally, oxygen is transported throughout the body only by red blood cells. During Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, you breathe 100% pure oxygen while enclosed in a clear, pressurized chamber (called a monoplace chamber).

The increased pressure allows the oxygen to dissolve directly into all the body's fluids — plasma, central nervous system fluids, the lymph, and bone. This means that oxygen can be carried to areas where circulation is diminished or blocked, directly supporting tissues that are starved for oxygen due to injury, infection, or radiation.

This increase in oxygen delivery stimulates the body's natural healing processes, promotes the growth of new blood vessels (angiogenesis), and helps fight off certain types of infections.

The Treatment Experience

Session Length

A typical HBOT session lasts approximately 90 to 120 minutes. Patients rest comfortably inside a clear acrylic chamber and can sleep, watch TV, or listen to music during treatment.

Course of Treatment

HBOT is a multi-session therapy. Depending on the indication being treated, a full course usually requires 20 to 40 sessions, generally administered once daily, Monday through Friday.

Safety & Comfort

Our monoplace chambers are clear acrylic and designed to reduce feelings of claustrophobia. A trained technician or physician is present in the room monitoring your session at all times.

Clinical Supervision

Treatments are physician-directed. Your progress is closely monitored, and your care plan is carefully coordinated with your primary or referring physician.

What to Expect

The sensation inside the chamber is similar to the pressure changes you feel in an airplane during takeoff and landing. During the initial pressurization (the "descent"), you may feel fullness in your ears. Our staff will instruct you on simple techniques to clear your ears, such as swallowing or yawning.

Once the prescribed pressure is reached, the sensation of fullness disappears, and you simply relax and breathe normally. At the end of the treatment, the pressure is gradually reduced.
